Dry Eyes and LASIK

If you’re tired of wearing glasses or contact lenses, you’re probably already considering LASIK. Berwick-area patients can see dramatic improvement in their vision by undergoing this safe, commonly performed procedure.

However, not everyone is a good LASIK candidate. One of the key characteristics our eye doctors will look for when deciding whether LASIK is right for you is whether or not you are suffering from dry eyes.

Dry eyes are some of the most common post-LASIK complications, which means it’s not a good idea to undergo the procedure if you are already suffering from this particular condition.

Fortunately, our doctors can treat dry eyes, and we will before we move forward with the LASIK procedure. Treatment for dry eyes can include:

  • Over-the-counter eye drops
  • Prescription eye drops or artificial tears
  • Temporary closure of the tear ducts
  • Permanent closure of your tear ducts

If you suffer from dry eyes, don’t let that prevent you from speaking to our eye doctors about LASIK. We’ll discuss your options with you and explain the risk of post-LASIK dry eye complications.
